Pre-Internship Field Experiences
15 hours of classroom observation
RAPIL candidates observe and reflect on a variety of practices in secondary classrooms, with a focus on:
- Alignment of classroom practice to building goals
- Content knowledge and questioning
- Planning for differentiation
- Strategies to engage all learners
- Assessment practices
- Classroom culture and climate
- Classroom management strategies
30 field experience hours supervised by a cooperating teacher.
RAPIL candidates work with a cooperating teacher – this may be in a middle school or a high school classroom. Classroom activities include but are not limited to:
- Co-teaching with the cooperating teacher
- Teach lessons developed with the CT and written independently
- Reflect on instruction with a RAPIL Evaluator
- Create activities for students
- Work one-on-one with students
- Assist the cooperating teacher with classroom tasks
- Reflect on classroom experiences with the cooperating teacher
30 field experience hours supervised by a cooperating teacher.
RAPIL candidates work with a cooperating teacher at a different instructional level from the EDTL 3067 field experience. Classroom activities will be similar, but the candidate is expected to demonstrate a greater level of independence.
